On My Mind: Horror Movies

Well here it goes again Deviants, the part where I tell you what’s been On My Mind and you read it so here it is.

Due to the current time of the year and the fast approaching holiday of Halloween it should be no surprise that I’m thinking of Horror Movies. I love horror movies (not those crappy modern pop ones) and will watch them any time of the year but especially love to when it’s October. Horror movies tend to be an underappreciated genre that many see as corny and underwhelming, which some are, but can actually provide a good kick. One of my all time favorites is An American Werewolf In London which comes from the mind behind another cinematic masterpiece, Animal House. An American Werewolf In London is a great movie because it manages to balance the horror element, comedy element and human element in a way that doesn’t feel over the top like some horror movies can. Another few classics that I love for this time of the year are Halloween (the original), The Exorcist and Friday the 13th (also the original). There have been some modern ones that have gotten me excited for horror again as well such as The Babadook, 30 Days of Night and 28 Days Later. All of those are great horror movie picks to get you going for the month but it wouldn’t be a good horror conversation without mentioning to awesome ones that came out as more independently made films, Dog Soldiers (trust me it’s great) and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (which is funny as hell). So this month curl up in your security blanket and sit down to embrace your dark side with something a little scarier.

What’s your favorite horror movie? Let me know in the comments below and don’t forget to keep checking back for more new material every week. Now get spooked and keep it classy Deviants!
