Adventure!-Arkansas (HCR)

Well howdy there Deviants! It’s Tuesday so it’s time for another little dose of Adventure! So let’s begin.

For those of you that know me personally then you know that I dabble in some rock climbing which is what I’m about to talk about. On the northern border of Arkansas not too far away from Branson, Missouri there’s a place called Horseshoe Canyon Ranch that’s pushed back a little ways into the Ozark area wilderness. The ranch gets its name due to the fact that it sits in a U shaped canyon that makes it a fantastic area for climbers to hit. It’s well sheltered around the camping areas and you are always within easy hiking distance of anything that you would want to climb. I’ve been there a couple of times to go climbing with my friends and we had a blast both times. Our experience was pretty great, a shower or two (maybe) a week, early morning fires, lots of climbing, camping, indulging some, hiking, nighttime fires with music and meeting lots of really cool people. We lived our week just keeping it simple with little to no access with any electronics and playing hard the whole time around people that were appreciating the same things we were. The scenery is great with a lot of foliage, trees and some waterfalls and the goats and dogs were a staple to every day. I love being in nature and away from it all so going here a couple times was a good get away for me and the climbing definitely didn’t hurt.

Let me know what you think or some other cool outdoor places I should go to climb or just camp in the comments below. As always feel free to share this if you’re feeling so kind and don’t forget to keeping checking back for new material. Get out there Deviants and make your own Adventure!

  1. Have you been to the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma? It has some of the absolute best climbing east of the Rockies. I spent four years in Dallas for grad school and I was up there all the time. It is beautiful, rugged and wild, with awesome rock!
